2024 New York Orchid Show: Florals in Fashion

2024 Orchid Show - Florals in Fashion at NYBG featuring mannequins all dressed up in orchids

The 2024 New York Orchid Show has landed at the New York Botanical Garden, and it is a stunning celebration titled Florals in Fashion. Running from February 17 to April 21, 2024, this exhibition celebrates the beauty of orchids and floral fueled fashion forward displays featuring orchids.

The New York Botanical Garden has been hosting the Orchid Show since 2002, and it has since become one of the most anticipated events of the year as a celebration of the beauty and diversity of orchids, a showcase of the Garden’s horticultural and scientific expertise, and a platform for artists and designers to showcase their work.

In 2024, the NY Orchid Show brings together the world of fashion and the world of botany in a unique and exciting way as a celebration of the beauty of orchids and a platform for fashion designers to showcase their work.

I love to visit the NYC Orchid Show every year, as do New Yorkers for whom it is an annual rite of passage to welcome spring to the Big Apple.

The 2024 Orchid Show: Florals in Fashion

The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) is hosting its 21st annual Orchid Show themed “Florals in Fashion.” This year’s event, running from February 17 to April 21, 2024, is a spectacular fusion of botanical beauty and high fashion. It offers a unique interpretation of the connection between floral aesthetics and high fashion, with orchids truly being the star of the show.

Florals in Fashion features designs by three designers, Hillary Taymour of Collina Strada, Olivia Cheng of Dauphinette, and Kristen Alpaugh of FLWR PSTL. These designers have created dramatic, picture-perfect floral displays that capture the orchid’s good side, ensuring that florals remain en vogue at the NYBG.

Florals in Fashion is a nod to the timeless influence of floral patterns and motifs in the fashion industry featuring orchids. The Orchid Show is not just a display of beautiful flowers, but also an immersive experience that brings the catwalk to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

As with every orchid show at the NYBG, the show is a feast for the eyes and a unique opportunity to their interpretation by the featured artists.

The show also features a runway that is a celebration of all things floral, with creative mannequins wearing designs that incorporate orchids and other flowers into the garments. The result is a stunning display of creativity and imagination featuring orchids.

As always, NYBG offers a number of fun and educational activities at the Orchid Show, including Orchid Nights and orchid classes.

Orchid Nights are after-hours events that allow visitors to experience the show in a more intimate setting with signature cocktails, music, and a variety of food and beverages, Orchid Nights provide a perfect backdrop for a memorable evening out, and tickets get sold out very quickly. In 2024, these are scheduled on March 30 & April 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, & 20 from 7 – 10 pm.

NYBG has hands-on workshops to create floral designs and learn about the art of flower arranging.

The exhibit has a Sensory Table on weekends from 12-4pm to discover the plants responsible for the scents such as chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon in the Conservatory. This is popular and tends to get crowded!
