Vintage Subway Trains

Vintage Subway Trains

The New York Transit Museum has been advertising vintage subway train rides this summer, and it reminded me of their annual Holiday Nostalgia Train Rides that run on weekends in December. These are actual vintage trains that riders can take for the cost of a subway swipe. The one I took below ran from the 2nd Avenue stop downtown to Queens Plaza.

There are usually people dressed for the occasion!

The ads on the train are a real throwback, and a great mix of commercial ads and social messaging under The Subway Sun.

This was my favorite ad, poor people of Paris and all…

And I saved the best for last, just a reminder of how much rides cost in 1948 –

Here is a more recent ride I took on a vintage subway train in the winter of 2022.
