Pride in New York
Pride is a time of celebrations and color and parades and people expressing themselves in New York. This year’s celebrations were dampened by the recent Supreme Court ruling, but as they say, the show must go on.
There were celebrations all week, and I started the weekend with a Mini Kiki Ball for ballroom dancing at Lincoln Center on Friday. It was a really fabulous setting with the giant disco ball, rainbow lighting and all.
The ballroom competition was interspersed with ballroom greats, here are some of them –
On Saturday, it was time to explore everything that was going on in Times Square.
Jeep was a sponsor, and had a Jeep written out with messages for Pride –
The Playbill float was in Times Square, and then we saw it in the parade on Sunday!
Audible had a space where they were doing fabulous make up and sparkles for people –
And there was live entertainment of course, this was a disco party all evening!
The grand finale was on Sunday with the parade, which I experienced from an area close to the Stonewall Inn –
Drag Queens could be found on most floats!
There were personal expressions of solidarity, support and celebration all around.
And, here is sage advice for all the haters –
I have been privileged to attend the Stonewall 50 celebrations in 2019, which were just so special.
All in all, a great Pride in New York.
