World’s Largest Digital Art Exhibit

Midnight Moment in Times Square

Midnight Moment in Times Square is one of my favorite Public Art Exhibits in New York. As the largest running digital art exhibit in the world, it runs in Times Square from 11:57pm – 12:00am on every single night, and changes every month when most billboards synchronize for the Midnight Moment of the month. The best place to take it in is from the red steps above the TKTS booth.

I have written about Midnight Moment before, but in December 2022 it is in focus as it celebrates its 10 year anniversary, which is very significant as it runs every single night! To celebrate this, there is a series of Midnight Moments being featured at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. It is ironic that PABT has been chosen to feature this as no one goes to the Bus Terminal to get their art fix, much less even think of it as an option for any kind of art at all.

Here are the featured Midnight Moments at PABT –

I haven’t been up or in Times Square late enough to experience this in the last few years, but here are some that I have captured over the years. I do see from recent pictures that the number of screens Midnight Moment is featured on have expanded, so I hope to experience this again soon. This is “Pattern Language” by Peter Burr from May 2018 –

This is Open My Glade (Flatten) by Pipilotti Rist from January 2017 –

And these are some pictures I have taken of Midnight Moment from over the years –
