Broadway at its Best in Times Square

Curtain Up Broadway Festival

This weekend was the second annual Curtain Up Broadway Festival in New York, and for New Yorkers like me that are not afraid to venture into Times Square, it was an absolute treat! There were 3 days full of performances by leading Broadway talent, and I only wish I could have spent more time here!!

I did luckily manage to catch events on my way to and fro to other places on all 3 days.

On Friday, I caught Broadway Sings: The Golden Age of Broadway, which included T. Oliver Reid (Hadestown), Conrad Ricamora (The King and I), Jessica Keenan Wynn (Beautiful), Morgan James (Motown the Musical), Jeanna de Waal (Diana), Corey Mach (Kinky Boots), Mary Kate Morrissey (Mean Girls) and Allison Semmes (Motown). It felt like a very intimate space even though it was bang smack in the middle of Times Square. Here they are waiting to go on stage to sing selections that the audience picked for them –

Here are a couple of the performances from this evening –

Saturday was rained out a lot, but I got to attend a Dueling Pianos played by Michael McAssey and Rachel Kaufman in the aftermoon with a friend who is a trained singer, and knew every song that was being sung! This made the afternoon very memorable indeed! I also got to catch Jason Gotay singing selections from his show Where You’ll Find Me, here is a sneak peek below –

On Sunday, I was late to meet a friend from high school that was visiting New York, but I got side tracked with these performances that I just could not miss, and had to tear myself away from the ones after. You can see a huge crowd of people for this despite the rain, umbrellas and all –

I definitely need to make more time for the Curtain Up Broadway Festival on my calendar next year, as I do for Broadway shows anytime!

Broadway organizes a lot of events in Times Square, such as these Show Globes that are on display. Keep a look out for these events any time you visit!
