Limited Edition Biggie Smalls MetroCards on his 50th Birthday

I had been reading about Limited Edition Biggie Smalls MetroCards being issued to commemorate what would have Biggie Smalls aka Notorious B.I.G. 50th birthday, but had no actual plans to get one of these as they were available only at 4 subway stations in Brooklyn.

As it so happened, I happened to be visiting a friend in Brooklyn on Saturday, and was taking the subway back to Manhattan, and experienced the fans all lined up for these at the Clinton Washington subway stop. There was a line out of the subway to get MetroCards from the 1 MetroCard machine on the Manhattan bound platform, and while I did not join the line for one, I did manage to get a picture of one of these limited edition cards –

The lines stretched outside the subway station, and there was music being played to keep everyone entertained.

Even the ads at the subway station were all about Biggie Small to celebrate what would have been his 50th birthday.

Even though this was not on my list of things to do this weekend, I am so glad I got to experience a very New York moment on Saturday night!
